Driving Question: I’m still brainstorming for my driving questions. At the moment, I feel it is going to focus on the use of video analysis in physical education. I was wondering what are the effects it has on metacognition when performing push-ups. So, I started to look at cases that contain the same topics that I would like to focus on.
International: In Australia they are using video analysis in combination of an app where they can annotate directly to the recording. This helps the players get a better understanding of what they are seeing on the recording. It also gives them a chance to slow down tape to get a better understanding of the movements. Case 1 National: Anne Rothstein did a study in which she studied the effects of using video tape replay in the classroom. She found out that advanced beginners get more out of video analysis than beginners did when performing skills. She used video analysis and cues together which helped her study be a success. Case 2 State: In this case they talked about the relation between physical education and academic performance. The study had teachers increase the amount of time students partake in physical education. After, they found out that taking time from academics for P.E. did not have a negative effect on students' academic performance. case 3 School: There is no case study that has been done at my school that pertains to physical education. I hope to change that once I’m done with this program. Looking back at data from last year's fitness testing, students did not perform well in the push-up testing. The main problem was they thought they were doing it right, but their body was not in the right position. So, if they can see themselves on video maybe it will increase their performance. After the reading, I started to think what kind of data I want to collect when I start my projects. I definitely will use a survey to see how the students like their new procedures for doing their task. I will also have a checklist in which students will fill out so they get a chance to review each other. This should help them get a better understanding of the task. Combined with the video, they can see their progress of the task over time. I will for sure collect some other data in the future.
