I feel that the role of personalized learning in today education giving the students the freedom to choose what they are learning and how they learning. It does not mean give them free range of what they want to do, but give them options so that they can be more motivated to do the work because they had a say in what they are learning. Also by letting them chose the way they do the learning can helps students be more successful. With me being an Physical Education Teachers I struggle at times to do personalized learning, but it is something that I would like to start to incorporating into my class. After reviewing the information about personalized learning it got me starting to thinking of ways I can incorporate it into my curriculum. The first way would be some type of prestation, in which students design a healthy meal plan that they would share with their peers. They would be able to do a paper, PowerPoint, oral presentation , or many other tools to deliver the information that they have learned. Another way that I might be able to incorporate personalized learning in my class is by having students teacher they peers a task that relates to a specific aspect of a sport. By doing this they can choose the way they want to deliver the information to the students and it also might help students learn because it might be easier to learn from someone other than the teacher. Also if you are teaching a concept it is a great way to show you have a grasp of the concept being taught.
After reading about competency-based learning I’m interested to see how that can be supplement into physical educations. I currently get my students for limited time (30 minutes once a week). So to add this to my curriculum would be hard but it is possible. I will need to brainstorm to see how it is possible. Hopefully I will be get some answers from this 702 course.
