It is very interesting when thinking about my journey toward 21st century teaching practices. I feel that I am a pretty tech-savvy guy when it comes to my personal life outside of teaching. When it comes to using technology in my class, I have no clue. I am slowly starting to incorporate technology into my class over the past few weeks. I have been adding music while students run which motivates them to get going a bit more than normal. I also have been showing some short clips to help rely information to the students. For example, I had taught the students how to do push-ups already, then I put on a video that points out clear exceptions for the task and errors that are commonly found when doing push-ups. First off, it delivers the information in a different way to the students then I would. They sometimes retain more information from a video these day because it is like watching a movie. This is something that I would have never thought of if it was not for the assessments we have been doing over the past few weeks. I am going to start using iPad to do video analysis of the students performing the push-ups in which they can also review their performance. Hopefully I will have the students make a video where they teach how to perform push-ups that I can share with future classes. I am really excited to see how education is going to change over the next few years due to the advancement in technology. Especially when it comes to collaborating physical education and science which would make some type of biomechanics class which I feel would be great for students to learn about.
I know I am only scratching the surface when it comes to the new media ecology, but I am ready to learn and share that knowledge with my students. I know that I will have to be flexible especially at the start. I know I will need to work better with my colleagues. The more we work together the more fluid the lesson and connection between my class and their class will be. Our school already has some tools set in place to help our school be a 21st century school. For example, every student has access to their own laptop and a lot of classrooms use google classroom with their students to do assignments.
